Girls Rush - Lloyd Clarke

To my knowledge Lloyd Clarke did not release any LPs of his work so here is a unique opportunity to hear one of the foundation artists of JA music.
Here’s a compilation I’ve been meaning to do for a long time & finally got round to it.
“Girls Rush” featuring one of my favourite Ska Stars Lloyd Clarke, of course I don’t have a picture of Lloyd nor hardly any info about him .In Dave Katz’ “Solid Foundation” the only mention of Lloyd is in relation to Lester Sterling’s first foray into Studio One where he thinks a vocal was being put down by Lloyd, but to my knowledge Lloyd didn’t record for Dodd .No mention in “Rough Guide” or “People Funny Boy” so the only other piece of info I have comes from the sleeve notes of “Trench Town Ska” in which its noted that Lloyd used to stay with Theo Beckford & didn’t have a day job because he only liked to sing ,well I for one am glad about that because I think he has a very distinctive voice

01 LOVE YOU THE MOST

The Kong Konnection

Leslie Kong seems to have been one of the better JA producers to work with, it's rumoured he paid ontime & at a good rate so he was favoured by consistantly good performances for his unusually loyal artists these included Derrick Morgan, Desmond Dekker & The Maytals to name a few ,all the tunes on this compilation were released in the UK on the Pyramid label which had no JA counterpart.Leslie only released tunes on the Beverley's label in JA unlike his counterparts who released tunes on a variety of their own labels.

Oswald “Baba” Brooks
In my opinion one of the Great JA Hornsmen alongside Tommy McCook & Roland Alphonso but unlike Roland & Tommy a little overlooked ,I know of no LP credited solely to Baba .He is credited on Prince Buster’s “What A Hard Man Fe Dead” LP & I have heard the Prince rate Baba in an interview so I guess he could be featured on any number of “Prince Buster All Stars” singles , he also features on The Techniques “Little Did You Know “ LP ,and I think he was Duke Reid’s arranger until The Skatalites split &Tommy McCook came over to Treasure Isle, from there he moved over to work with Sonia Pottinger at “Gayfeet” continuing to cut some great tunes into the Rocksteady Period , so here’s a taster

01 Open The Door

Doctor Bird

Lets kick off with a compilation I did some time ago , focusing on the "Doctor Bird" label operated in the 1960's by Graeme Goodall which released some fabulous singles between 1966 & 1969 there seems to have been a connection with Sonia Pottinger's "Gayfeet" label in JA as her productions make up the bulk of the releases but with a few Studio One & Treasure Isle as well as a few smaller labels in the mix it's a cracking label

As a life long fan of Jamaican Music I thought I would use this site to share some of the highlights of my collecting ,this will usually consist of a compilation CD of some of my collection which consists mainly of 7" singles ,the very lifeblood of JA music.

I hope this will give other people an opportunity to hear some great music that they would not hear otherwise
